We are extremely concerned about the consequences of Bills 21 and 94
The Front Pop is sharing a statement from our comrades at the École pour toustes (this translation was made by the Front Pop):
We are writing to you today because we are extremely concerned about the consequences of Bills 21 and 94 for our colleagues, our students, and their families.
These laws, which aim in particular to strengthen secularism in the education system, are an attack on individual rights and freedoms—especially women’s rights—and directly target essential workers who have been keeping our schools running alongside us for many years.
Nearly a year ago, thousands of people signed a petition calling for the withdrawal of Bill 94: Bill No. 94. We won’t stand for it!
“True state secularism is open, inclusive, and respectful of rights and freedoms. Bill 94, on the other hand, jeopardizes students’ right to thrive in an environment that respects diversity.” – Ligue des droits et libertés
Despite widespread opposition, Bill 94 was passed, setting a dangerous precedent that legitimizes racism, Islamophobia, control over women’s bodies, and intolerance. Immediately after its adoption, we were deeply troubled and outraged by incidents of exclusion—where colleagues could no longer come to school and lost their jobs—and by shocking events in which mothers were denied access to the school to participate in educational activities with their children.
As the 2026 school year begins, we refuse to remain silent. We refuse to continue doing our jobs without taking action. We want to challenge these absurd laws, and we’re looking for allies who want to get involved in opposing them. We have various ideas (open letters, social media, symbolic actions…), but we want everyone’s voice to be heard.
We invite you to fill out this form (via the QR code) or send us an email to share situations that have shocked you—such as colleagues losing their jobs, parents being denied the chance to volunteer, or incidents involving students—or to let us know that you don’t want to remain indifferent.
Together, we have the power to take collective action. To write to us: ecole.pour.toustes@gmail.com
