What would you say if, tomorrow, the government imposed mandatory genital inspections on your children?

What would you say if, tomorrow, the government imposed mandatory genital inspections on your children or those of people you know? A measure like this will be put to a vote this fall in Washington State. The goal? To protect young girls from the “danger” posed by transgender people.

To “protect” children, we would have to subject them to a repulsive invasion of their privacy. This transphobic bill – one of many – is a demonstration of the level of radicalism this hateful movement is capable of.

Moral panics know no borders: in Canada, transphobic repression is most intense in Alberta. Last December, the Alberta government passed a law that also aims to exclude transgender people from amateur sports teams, drawing inspiration from transphobic practices observed in the United States, among other places.

This same law also severely restricts access to health care. The notwithstanding clause has therefore been invoked. Several sections of the Charter are affected, in particular “the right to life, liberty, and security”. This law, too, claims to protect children.

The logic is the same: under the pretext of coming to the aid of defenseless people, the paternalistic, sexist, and misogynistic state employs repressive violence while presenting itself as the ultimate arbiter of the common good, in order to “save” children who lack agency.

Protection through terror.

It is no coincidence that the Ligue des droits et libertés, along with other civic groups, has criticized the CAQ government’s abuse of the exemption clause: a right ceases to be a right when it becomes optional.

That’s what authoritarianism is all about. Medical expertise, self-determination, and the well-being of a marginalized community are cast aside in favor of arbitrary rule. Thus, a small handful of unscrupulous opportunists are fueling this witch hunt – a sordid diversion designed to help them cling to power.

Meanwhile, hate crimes targeting transgender people (and the broader LGBTQ+ community) are on the rise across the country, a trend confirmed by Statistics Canada, Interligne, the Canadian LGBT Council, and other organizations.

We don’t regain power by despising and oppressing minorities, but by organizing against hatred and against the wealthy class that is destroying the planet and monopolizing power and wealth!

Come join us at the Trans Liberation March. It’s on August 15th, 2026, at 6PM, at the Place des Montréalaises! Look for the Front Pop’s banner!
